Session abstract
What you’ll learn
What if the browser is already a game console, and CSS is your game engine? In this talk, we'll explore how far you can push the web platform using nothing but HTML and CSS. By treating CSS as a Finite State Machine, we can build surprisingly rich, interactive experiences: movement, hazards, timers, win conditions, even simple game logic. Along the way, we’ll break down the techniques that make this possible and show how they map to real engineering and web development concepts. As part of this session, we'll build a small playable game live on stage, constructed step by step in front of the audience! Beyond the fun, attendees will walk away with new mental models for UI state, fresh ideas for micro‑interactions, and a deeper understanding of how the browser thinks. This talk is ideal for developers who enjoy creative constraints, want to sharpen their understanding of CSS as a state system, or simply want to see the web do something unexpected.
